TRAINING

New! Multimedia Workshop on Brief Intervention for Substance Abusing Adolescents

TRI offers a range of training and consultation on various topics related to addiction assessment, treatment and evaluation.

TRI staff provide training on the Addiction Severity Index for small or large groups of providers, using protocols developed and empirically evaluated by creators of the instrument.

Alone or in combination with ASI training, developers of the ONDCP-funded Drug Evaluation Network System (DENS) Software teach providers to use this automated version of the ASI and the various clinical and reporting features it offers.

TRI can assist agencies or state systems in any area of the country to develop CASPAR, or “Computer Assisted System of Patient Assessment and Referral,” a system that uses the DENS ASI software and adds an electronic listing of free or low-cost services available in the area to facilitate matching of patient referrals to needs identified on the ASI. Clinicians trained to use a CASPAR system developed and tested in Philadelphia were shown in a recent study to have significant increases in patient problem to treatment care plan matching, received more referrals that matched services to needs uncovered in the assessment, received more matched services and stayed in treatment longer. View the Resource Guide for the Philadelphia Area (requires Microsoft Access).

Other training and consultation is available on a wide range of assessment, treatment-needs matching, agency or state trends tracking, and other data collection and performance monitoring issues.
