For Treatment Counselors:

  • The automated DENS patient assessment system, incorporating the Addiction Severity Index, was developed with partial funding from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and is now widely used in numerous state, local and private treatment systems.
  • ASI-based treatment planning software facilitates treatment planning based on standardized client assessment.
  • CASPAR is an electronic tool to help counselors find and refer patients to essential wrap-around services.

For those who Work with Drug Involved Offenders:

TRI-CEP™ (TRI Court Evaluation Program) is a highly secure, web-based tool to evaluate drug and other problem-solving courts and adaptively manage substance abusing offenders. The tool is a performance monitoring and reporting system that captures critical performance indicators endorsed by the National Drug Court Institute. It also facilitates collaborative management of offenders by judges, treatment personnel, case managers, and probation/parole officials by generating immediate and actionable client progress data, with adaptive recommendations.

The Risk and Needs Triage™ is a web-based decision support tool to help judges and other court officials assign drug-involved offenders to the community-based program best matched to their assessed need for supervision and clinical care. Also highly secure, the Risk and Needs Triage includes a short assessment instrument yielding immediate and easily understandable reports that sort offenders into one of four risk/needs quadrants, each with direct implications for suitable correctional dispositions and behavioral health care plans.

For Parents:

  • WebSafe: on-line resource developed by TRI, Unyos, and the Partnership for a Drug Free America to help parents, educators, and other professionals protect children from Internet drug threats. The novel website includes awareness information, opportunity to register as a “WebSafe Parent” to receive periodic updates from TRI on new, potentially threatening Internet content, and “WebSafe Lifeguard,” software available for purchase that allows users to monitor and control Internet use by children.
  • A Parent’s Guide to the Teen Brain, developed with the Partnership for a Drug Free America (Partnership), is an interactive, multi-media tool to help parents understand teen brain processes and establish the parent-teen talking connection.
  • Time to Act! also developed with the Partnership, contains science-based guidance when parents know or suspect their children are drinking or taking drugs.

The Addiction Severity Index
Developed in the 1980s by TRI co-founder A. Thomas McLellan, Ph.D. and others from the University of Pennsylvania, the instrument has spawned an extensive network of TRI development and training specialties, including ASI training protocols, manuals and competency assessments that have become the gold standard in the field of addiction. Since its inception, TRI has hosted an ASI “Help Line” and is a repository for the instruments, manuals, and coding tools that help practitioners incorporate the instrument into clinical practice.
