Adam C. Brooks, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Research: Dr. Brooks works to fully integrate scientific efforts with translational outcomes. In addition, Dr. Brooks works on continuous care and adaptive treatment protocols, along with performance-based contracting strategies. Dr. Brooks has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a specialization in marital and family therapy from St. John’s University. Prior to joining TRI, he was at the Columbia University Division on Substance Abuse where he treated substance abusing patients using a variety of empirically validated treatments. He is an expert supervisor in Motivational Interviewing, and part of a team at Columbia developing a teleconferenced form of supervision for distance learning of the technique. His research interests include computer-assisted treatment and training interventions, use of phone technology in treatment and recovery monitoring, and workforce development in the use of evidence-based practices.

Karen Leggett Dugosh, Ph.D. is Director of the Law and Ethics Section. She holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Experimental Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington. Dr. Dugosh has expertise in issues related to informed consent to research among individuals with substance use disorders. She is particularly interested in the construct of coercion and has developed an assessment to measure pressures that criminal justice-involved substance users may experience when they are being recruited for a research study. In addition, she is involved in research evaluating behavioral interventions to improve outcomes for individuals who are receiving treatment for substance use disorders, including those who are involved in the criminal justice system. Dr. Dugosh also provides methodological and statistical consultation and support to researchers within the organization.

Kathleen A. Geary

Kathleen A. Geary, Vice President for Operations:  Ms. Geary is responsible for providing overall direction and guidance and day-to-day leadership of the operational activities of the organization. In this role, Ms. Geary develops and creates strategies and policies that align with organizational goals and is responsible for ensuring that cost effective operations and infrastructure are in place to support all staff and ensure that strategies are understood and the organization is achieving its strategic goals.  She has been an integral member of the TRI team since its founding in 1992, and continues to provide tactical guidance and support as the organization grows.  In addition to her work at TRI, Ms. Geary has served as Vice President for Operations in previous positions where she was responsible for strategic planning and goal setting, including operational direction.
