Research Assistants
Treatment Research Institute

The Treatment Research Institute (TRI), a nationally recognized not-for-profit research and development organization, has several open Research Assistant positions in various Sections and Centers across the organization.  Research Assistants will primarily be responsible for data collection and monitoring.  Research Assistants will also provide support to the research and scientific staff within the Center and Section.

About the Treatment Research Institute
TRI is dedicated to science-driven reform of policy and treatment in substance use.  TRI investigators are predominantly solutions oriented in their approach to the multi-faceted, real-world issues associated with drug/alcohol use or abuse.  More information about TRI and our research projects can be found here.

Open positions are available in the following Sections/Centers:

Section on Law & Ethics
The mission of the Section on Law & Ethics, under the direction of David S. Festinger, Ph.D., is to evaluate the impact of criminal justice programs, polices and the ethical mandates on substance abuse clients and their families and the community.  There are currently two open Research Assistant positions in this Section.  Click here for more information on the Law & Ethics Section.

Parents Translational Research Center
This Center, under the direction of Kimberly C. Kirby, Ph.D., focuses on the translation of key elements from proven clinical interventions into practical tools for parents to use in addressing the substance use problems of their adolescents. Section on Behavioral Treatments & Applications
The mission of this Section, also under the direction of Kimberly C. Kirby, Ph.D., is to develop, adapt and refine behavioral applications that have evidence of efficacy in research settings and increase their availability, accessibility and quality of delivery to clients, their families, and the community through innovative, empirically derived training and technology-based interventions.  There are two open positions in this Section.  Click here for more information on the Behavioral Treatments & Applications Section.

Research Assistant Responsibilities Include:

  • Implement all data collection and related study procedures within treatment programs/drug courts.
  • Assist with developing and revising user manuals, study procedures manuals and training materials.
  • Assist with regulatory requirements, IRB submission, DSMB, AE/SAE monitoring, etc.
  • Recruit clients, conduct phone follow-ups and on-site data collection
  • Track and monitor participant follow-up and retention in study (as applicable).
  • Perform quality assurance reviews on data, review completed data collection instruments for consistency and completeness.
  • Assist in preparing data for analysis.
  • Monitor and track project progress.
  • Conduct literature searches to assist with grant preparation and report writing.  Assist with preparation of required status reports.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or related field required.
  • Experience with substance abuse and/or behavioral health research studies preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of computer fundamentals, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of SPSS.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with research participants, TRI superiors, peers and subordinates as well as employees and representatives of cooperating outside agencies.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
